The country’s most useful contrast is not old versus new, but coast, creek, desert, oasis, and mountain. Give the two largest cities proper time, then choose at least one heritage-focused or landscape-focused extension rather than trying to collect all seven emirates at speed.

Put the creek before the towers. Al Fahidi, the abra crossing, and the souqs establish Dubai’s trading geography; Downtown and the coast then show how dramatically the city expanded.

Abu Dhabi
Emirate and federal capital
Monumental civic spaces and carefully designed museums are the strength here. Balance the Grand Mosque and presidential complex with Saadiyat’s collections and an unhurried Corniche evening.

Al Ain

Al Ain supplies the inland counterpoint: shade, water management, earthen forts, archaeological sites, and a mountain edge. The oasis is most meaningful when its traditional falaj system is understood.

- Jebel Hafeet viewpoints in suitable weather
Heart of Sharjah
Emirate of Sharjah
Restored coral-walled houses, museums, calligraphy, art spaces, workshops, and old souqs form a walkable cultural district beside the creek. It rewards a whole day rather than a quick photo stop.

- Bait Al Naboodah and traditional wind-tower architecture
- Sharjah’s art, heritage, and calligraphy museums
- Souk Al Arsah, the Corniche, and nearby public spaces
Ras Al Khaimah & Jebel Jais
Northern emirate · Hajar Mountains
The mountains introduce elevation, geology, village and fort landscapes, and cooler viewpoints. Adventure activities should be booked only with authorised operators and matched to ability.

Spend a full day in Sharjah or travel inland to Al Ain’s oasis and forts.
Add the mountains
Use Ras Al Khaimah for a slower landscape finish rather than another dense city day.
